Microsoft has urgently released security updates for its Edge browser, Teams, and Skype to fix two zeroday vulnerabilities found in opensource libraries utilized by these products. The first vulnerability CVE20234863 stems from a heap buffer overflow issue in the WebP code library, potentially causing crashes or enabling arbitrary code execution. The second one CVE20235217 also results from a heap buffer overflow, this time in the VP8 encoding of the libvpx video codec library, which could lead to application crashes or allow arbitrary code execution if exploited successfully. These vulnerabilities were discovered by reputable security teams, and though they were exploited in the wild, the details of these attacks remain undisclosed.
